Dear Health Advocates,

As we head into the high heat of summer, the corporate interests profiting off health care are not taking a vacation, and neither are we. From the ongoing implementation of AI-driven prior authorizations in Traditional Medicare to the corporate extraction gutting our local safety-net hospitals, the fight to protect patients over corporate profits remains urgent across Washington state. At the same time, our movement is actively pushing state leaders to speed up the transition toward a truly equitable, single-payer healthcare system for all Washingtonians. We are also supporting Congressional efforts to protect and strengthen Traditional Medicare.

In this month’s newsletter, we offer updates across four of our core focus areas: tracking the Universal Health Care Commission’s progress on designing a universal state plan and needed interim steps, addressing enrollment barriers in Apple Health Expansion for our undocumented neighbors, exposing private equity’s footprint in local care, and sounding the alarm on the WISeR pilot program’s threat to Traditional Medicare.
