Health Care is a
Human Right-WA

Health Care is a Human Right–WA is a statewide coalition working to establish a publicly funded, universal health care system in Washington. We believe health care is a human right and that public systems must serve people—not profit. We organize communities, partner with coalition members, and advance policy solutions that improve health, stability, and opportunity for all Washingtonians.

Our Shared Values

❋ Universal Healthcare

Everyone deserves access to comprehensive healthcare, regardless of income, employment, or immigration status.

❋ Improving Social Equity

Healthcare policy must address structural inequities and close gaps in outcomes for communities historically excluded or harmed.

❋ Access and Affordability

Care should be available when people need it, without cost barriers that force families to choose between health and basic necessities.

❋ Defending Public Program

Strong public programs are essential to public health and economic stability and must be protected from cuts, privatization, and erosion.

  • I got sick on vacation. A $47,428 medical bill left me responsible for $1,283 out of pocket. As a mom with a son covered by Medicaid, that’s not a small number. I went for rest and came home to a $1,283 bill. Families shouldn’t be punished for needing care. We need a healthcare system that works for people, not against them.

    Micaela, Universal Healthcare Advocate

  • "I'm at real risk of losing of my medical benefits ranging from my walker to insulin injections because of medicaid cuts."

    - HCHR Coalition Member

  • "To this day I am scrambling to pay for things even though I am well-below the poverty level. This is because medicine costs are getting higher but everything else is staying stagnate which is basically cutting us down. Our entire system needs to be rehauled.

    -Joelle Craft, WashingtonCAN member
